Day 1 TBILISI – OMALO – DARTLO

After breakfast early morning we begin Trip to Tusheti. Along the way we’ll visit Alaverdi Monastery. Switching to 4WD cars and departure for Tusheti. Narrow, dusty road climbs from the lowlands to the 2900m high Abano pass and offers thrilling views into the valley below. On the way we will see Omalo, the largest settlement in Tusheti. After visit of fortified Keselo hill.

Come to village Dartlo - Tusheti’s fairy tale. Located 200km from Tbilisi in a remote Eastern Mountain region of Tusheti, Dartlo represents a dream village, on the beautiful alpine slopes of Caucasus Mountains at the level of 1850m; Tusheti’s Alazani River, lots of homestays, Cafe with a perfect location, camping places, tasty mountain cheese, view to waterfall from the houses and even more Dartlo has to offer.

Day 2 DARTLO – KVAVLO – DANO - DARTLO (Easy hiking day)

Walking Distance 3.5-4 km one way. Difficulty – easy;

Breakfast. You can do lots of Hiking and walking around Dartlo. But Dartlo itself is one of the most remarkable places in Tusheti owing to its architecture and overall landscape. You can hike village Kvavlo and Dano. It features stone villages, sweeping views, wildflowers and livestock. An automobile road goes from Village Dartlo up to Village Dano, from where it leades to Village Kvavlo. The tower with a pyramid shaped roof overlooks the trail. The village is built on the rocky slopes of the mountain. Sections of it are connected with each other with paths built with stones and rock-cut pathways.

Day 3 DARTLO - CHESHO - PARSMA - DARTLO (Hiking or horse riding day)

Walking Distance 10km, Difficulty – Moderate, 4 - 5 hours woalking

Breakfast. In the morning, we will visit other small Tusheti villages by horseback riding or by hiking. We will take a small detour to see the ruins of the village Parsma and Chesho We follow the Pirikiti Alazani river gorge and reach to village Parsma.

You can follow the Pirikita Alazani river gorge and reach to the village Parsma and Chesho (distance about 10 km) You can rent a horse and cover this route.

Dinner at your guesthouse.

Day 4 DARTLO – SHENAKO - DIKLO – OLD DIKLO - DARTLO (Jeep tour 27 KM & hiking 5 KM)

Walking Distance 5km from Shenako to Diklo; Difficulty – easy

Breakfast. This day of travel we’ll see the most beautiful villages of Tusheti: Shenako, Diklo and ruins of village old Diklo. Drive by 4x4WD car to the direction village Shenako along the Chagma valley. Arrive in village Shenako (2080m). Area is overlooked by mount Diklo, on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus and is bordering Republic of Dagestan (Russian Federation). There are no towers but there are old beautiful houses with unique balconies, stony roofs, stunning views from balconies and church beautifully standing on the hill which changes color during each season – gradually turns from green to yellow and then white. Explore surroundings of the village Shenako, Visit old church of Holy Trinity (19c) and ancient brewery of the village. Hiking from Shenako to Diklo (5 km one way). Village Diklo is located in Tusheti Protected Areas, specifically in Chagmatusheti on 2150 meters above sea level.Both Shenako and Diklo, are two small villages is very old, they are looking like in XII century, the architect and structure is too much old and houses was built by mountain stones. They are looking great. On the way we are going to visit border of Dagestan, on the border standing old Georgian castle which has big history and every locals if you ask them to tell you story about it they can old you everything in details about 30 Georgian heroes how they was defence 10 days them village from enemy.Along the way to old Diklo we will pass through Alpine meadows and will see most beautiful views of Diklo Mountain 4285m. The ruins of Old Diklo village, impressive natural and agricultural landscape, stunning views of the Caucasus mountains, Ageurta fortress ruins, various bird life, opportunity to taste traditional beer.

Drive back to Dartlo from Diklo. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5 DARTLO - OMALO – ALAVERDI – CHATEAU IKALTO - GOMBORI – TBILISI

After breakfast drive back to kakheti. You will change a car in village Fshaveli. On the way to Tbilisi, you will see Ikalto Monastery The ruins of the Academy are behind the three churches with evidence of a once thriving wine culture. ‚ It was an academy in a monastery that taught oenology to students 900 years ago. Nowadays, there some plans to make Ikalto once again a center for teaching traditional wine and qvevri making. Nearby Monastery we will visit Chateau Ikalto for rest and wine degustation. Come back to Tbilisi by Gombory pass. End of the tour.
